When you think of Victorian wineries, you imagine a trip inland to the crisp countryside, with highways next to farms and mountains in the horizon. A drive down the coast line is quite the contrast to the traditional winery adventure. One Day Estate, a weekend adventure heading down to Geelong’s hidden winery, .

One Day Estate is a boutique winery looking to join farmers and creatives alike, in a spectacular welcoming environment on the bellarine coastline.

Owner, Sam Murray said One Day Estate bloomed from humble beginnings roughly 5 years ago.

“It all started with a bit word of mouth. We ran a few functions in here first, and people started asking us to open up. The first day we did that, we had two to three hundred people through. We haven’t slowed down since.”

In the past 5 years the estate has progressed by staying true to itself and keeping a naturally relaxed vibe by only opening on Sundays to the general public.  But don’t be alarmed with the one day a week concept because a Sunday trip to this winery will enrich you for weeks to come.

Between 12-5pm you can find yourself listening to live music with a toasty fire burning and delicious food cooking on their open woks. You will feel submerged within the natural landscape with rows of amber vines stretched out to the horizon, right next to the outdoor area.

The unique characteristics of the estate will have you visiting more than once.

“Casual, relaxed, fun and rustic is everything we do. The venue has a personality of its own, and our customers love the character of the place. You don’t get this sort of thing anywhere else in Geelong, so when people do finally discover us, we find they keep coming back long term.”

But it won’t just be a good time and the delicate wine you will be amazed by; but also the detail in the architecture with materials used from historical structures and landmarks built by Sam’s own hands.

“Ever since I can remember I’ve been using my hands to build things and enjoying recycling and making things. I grew up pushing a broom, cutting timber and cleaning up building sites and I’d always find things I wanted to keep. I guess that’s where it all stems back to. Eventually I got around to building the winery and many of the things I kept naturally found a home here.”

It is truly an experience being built at the One Day Estate constructed by Sam himself and also through a collaboration between local artists.

“We’ve done a little bit with local artists over the past few years, but long term we really aim to collaborate with more and more. Sharing their art helps us bring the venue to life, but also get there story shared at the same time.”

“It’s a really win, win for us both. Not to mention our customers get an even richer experience through the process as well. We have this beautiful, unique venue that lends itself to telling the story of artists in the region, and we’re proud to be able to do that.”

Sam said there is also plenty more to grow within the winery.

“We have some plans to run exhibits, events and more exciting things – all plans in their infancy which we can’t wait to find the time to develop in the future.”

The estate itself is also hosting birthdays, weddings and corporate events.
